Specification Languages and Their Use (Case: AsmL)
نویسنده
چکیده
Specification languages are an integral part of software development. They enable concise and exact specification of software systems on different abstraction levels. Specification languages have many uses: they are used as an intermediary step from requirements towards implementation; they are used to verify critical properties of complex systems such as safety and liveness, and specifications may be used for automatic code generation, performance estimation and test-case generation.

Testable Use Cases in the Abstract State Machine Language
Use cases are a method for describing interactions between humans and/or systems. However, despite their popularity, there is no agreed formal syntax and semantics of use cases. The Abstract State Machine Language (ASML) is an executable specification language developed at Microsoft Research. In this paper we define an encoding of use cases in ASML and demonstrate the advantages by describing t...
متن کاملEmbedding and Verification of PSL using AsmL
In this paper, we propose a methodology to integrate the Property Specification Language (PSL) in the verification process of systems designed using Abstract States Machines (ASMs). We provide a complete embedding of PSL in the ASM language AsmL, which allows us to integrate PSL properties as part of the design. For the verification, we propose a technique based on the AsmL tool that translates...
متن کاملAsmL Semantics in Fixpoint
AsmL is a novel executable specification language based on the theory of Abstract State Machines (ASMs). It represents one of the most powerful practical engines to write and execute ASMs. In this report, we present a proven complete small-step trace-based operational semantics of the main parts of AsmL. Such a semantics provides precise and non ambiguous definitions of AsmL. It is very useful ...
متن کاملRuntime verification of .NET contracts
We propose a method for implementing behavioral interface specifications on the .NET platform. Our interface specifications are expressed as executable model programs. Model programs can be run either as stand-alone simulations or used as contracts to check the conformance of an implementation class to its specification. We focus on the latter, which we call runtime verification. In our framewo...
متن کاملA Design for Verification Approach Using an Embedding of PSL in aSML
In this paper, we propose to integrate an embedding of Property Specification Language (PSL) in Abstract State Machines Language (AsmL) with a top-down design for verification approach in order to enable the model checking of large systems at early stages of the design process. We provide a complete embedding of PSL in the ASM language AsmL, which allows us to integrate PSL properties as part o...
